Two magazines are featuring Cincinnati musicians prominently in their February editions. CSO music director Louis Langrée is given a half-page spotlight in Vanity Fair, with the headline “Bonjour Cincinnati.” A photographer came to Cincinnati earlier this fall to photograph him in Springer Auditorium.
And Opera News mentions CCM alumni about two dozen times in its current issue — by faculty member Donna Loewy’s estimation. Here’s the list:
Opera Watch: Andrew Garland. appearing with the Boston Baroque and Seattle Opera; and Ric Furman, winner of the top award to a young Wagnerian from the Wagner Society of New York, who has been busy at Seattle Opera and sings in Germany this month.
Sound Bites: Catherine Martin has a nice feature written by Brian Kellow. She appears at Dayton Opera this month, as Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s “Dead Man Walking.”
In Review: David McFerrin appeared with Boston Opera; Nathan Stark was in An Italian in Algiers in San Jose Opera;
In Chicago, Norman Garrett was praised for his Jake in Porgy and Bess.
She spotted the great baritone Tom Fox in a Washington Concert Opera ad.
Recording reviews mention Ian McEuen on the album With Blood, With Ink. David McFerrin turns up on MacMillan’s Clemency.
In Video, a full-page review of Aldridge Parables mentions Adriana Zabala. A video of Cavalli’s Elena notes Brendan Tuohy among the excellent singers.
