Christopher Eanes has been appointed the executive director of the Cathedral Choral Society at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. He and his wife, KellyAnn Nelson announced the end of their tenures as co-directors of the Cincinnati Boychoir on Facebook on Monday night. Eanes will also be departing Collegium Cincinnati, the ensemble he founded at Christ Church Cathedral.

Nelson, founding director of the Young Professionals Choral Collective, will continue her role with YPCC through the 2019-20 season. She grew the group of singers — all busy young professionals in the Cincinnati area — from a few who came together to sing in a bar in Dec. 2011 to a roster of more than 1,200 singers who perform concerts and sing carols city-wide.

KellyAnn Nelson is founding director of the YPCC and plans to continue through next season.

Eanes posted on Facebook last night: “In 2009, I moved to Cincinnati with no beard, no wife, and no children. Ten years later, I am able to look back upon this decade as the most meaningful of my adult life. The experiences we’ve had in Cincinnati with YPCC, the Boychoir, and Collegium – all of our musical families – can never be replicated.”

The couple will move to Washington, D.C. and Eanes will take up his new post on July 1.

The Boychoir announced in a release that plans are in place to appoint successors to the couple, and that more information will be available on the Boychoir website.

Dr. Tom Merrill, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said “We are very grateful for the artistry, passion and leadership that Chris Eanes and KellyAnn Nelson have provided to the Cincinnati Boychoir. In the ten years that they have worked with boys from across our region, often in conjunction with other local amateur and professional groups, they have not only grown the Boychoir in size and reputation but have also instilled in these young men the bond of brotherhood, a sense of responsibility, and curiosity for other cultures through their travel. We are thrilled that they are beginning the next phase of their personal and professional careers and are very sorry to see them leave our region.”

From the society’s website: The Cathedral Choral Society is the resident symphonic chorus of Washington National Cathedral. Now in its 76th season, the 140-voice chorus presents a series of four programs at the Cathedral and has appeared as a guest chorus at the Kennedy Center with The Washington Ballet and National Symphony, at Wolf Trap National Park, and at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Strathmore Hall with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The chorus inspires and supports singing in schools through its annual High School Choir Festival and DC Choir Partner program.
