On Sunday at 2 p.m., Awadagin Pratt performs a free program in Memorial Hall entitled “Stillpoint.”
Pratt is joined by composers Tyshawn Sorey, Paola Prestini, Peteris Vasks, Jessie Montgomery, Jonathan Bailey Holland, Alvin Singleton and Judd Greenstein, out-of-the-voice-box, super-group Roomful of Teeth and seven newly composed works. He’ll embrace T.S. Eliot in a concert-length narrative that expresses an elemental truth…”at the still point of the turning world…there the dance is…and there is only the dance.” It is a live preview of Pratt’s upcoming album.
Free but reservations are required, here.
Watch for master classes by MacArthur “Genius” Grant winner Tyshawn Sorey and superstar Jessie Montgomery (You might want to check out the recent NYT profile on Jessie and the recent NYT review of Tyshawn’s engagement with the Houston Chamber Choir). Other composers include Judd Greenstein, Paola Prestini, Jonathan Bailey Holland, Alvin Singleton and Peteris Vasks.
